At Brookside, we believe children learn best when they are happy, secure, curious and actively involved in their own learning. Our curriculum is child-centred and influenced by Froebelian principles, recognising every child as a unique and capable learner and valuing childhood as an important stage of life in its own right.

Play is at the heart of learning. Children are given time and freedom to explore, investigate, create, make choices and develop their own ideas. We follow children's interests and fascinations while also providing carefully planned experiences that introduce new knowledge, skills and possibilities.

 

Our experienced practitioners know when to step back, observe and allow learning to unfold, and when to join children's play, model language, ask thoughtful questions, introduce new ideas or provide just the right level of challenge to move learning forward.

 

We place a strong emphasis on developing communication, independence, confidence, resilience and positive relationships. Children are encouraged to do things for themselves, solve problems, make decisions, work alongside others and experience the satisfaction of mastering new skills.

 

Nature and outdoor learning are an important part of our curriculum. Children have regular opportunities to explore our surroundings, experience the changing seasons, be physically active, get muddy, take appropriate risks and develop a meaningful connection with the natural world.

 

Alongside child-led exploration, children experience a rich range of opportunities including stories, music, movement, creativity, cooking, language, sensory play and real-life experiences. Our curriculum is designed to build progressively on what children already know and can do, while remaining responsive to each individual child.

 

Most importantly, we want children to enjoy learning. We aim to nurture curious, confident and capable children who are willing to have a go, keep trying when something is difficult and approach new experiences with excitement and wonder.
