Nestled in the Scout Hut at the top of Gatley Hill, Brookside Preschool enjoys a unique setting surrounded by woodland, open fields and a stream. We make the most of our surroundings, giving children regular opportunities to explore, discover and experience the natural world as part of everyday life at Brookside.

Our approach is child-centred and influenced by Froebelian principles, recognising childhood as valuable in its own right and every child as a unique, curious and capable learner. We believe children learn best through play, exploration, meaningful experiences and positive relationships, with the freedom and time to develop their own ideas.

Our experienced team understands when to step back and allow children to lead their learning, and when thoughtful interaction, modelling or carefully planned experiences can help take that learning further. We encourage children to make choices, solve problems, communicate their ideas, build relationships and become increasingly confident and independent.

 

Outdoor learning is an important part of who we are. In keeping with our Froebelian influence and inspired by the Forest School approach, we value children's connection with nature and the opportunities it provides to explore, get muddy, take appropriate risks and challenge themselves within safe and supportive boundaries.

 

Above all, we believe childhood should be valued and enjoyed. Children deserve time to play, wonder, investigate, create, laugh, make friends and experience the joy of simply being children.
